Default Newer player, some various questions about end-game

Some history first, I got Prophecies when it first came out but only played for about a month, never really got "hooked." I blame myself for never really getting the hang of the game. That char was an E/N, now level 17.
A few days ago I bought Factions, simply because I loved the idea of Guild Wars compared to past games I was really into, WoW and DAoC. The speed of leveling in Factions is more to my liking, especially now that I am in college and don't have hours to play like I did for WoW.

Now, for some questions I need to get out of the way so that I don't lose interest again
--
I currently have two level 16 characters in Factions that have just gotten to the mainland- a W/Mo and Mo/Mes. Now, I would love to buy the best armor I can but I do not have much money at all, about 3-5k on both characters. I do not exactly know how to get money in the game, how to farm, or even what exactly I'm supposed to be doing.

*I have been told to farm outside the market because there are lots of good drops. Am I supposed to be farming with Henchmen? I know that the more henchmen you have, the less chance of drops I will receive. The W/Mo can take some punishing with a few backup hench, but I can't seem to get anywhere with my Monk without a full group of hench :\ Should I be doing something like farming everything with my W/Mo and giving it to the monk? I'm not sure which character to focus on- I really want to get into PVP. I know there is Wammo hate out there, I plan on changing secondaries... don't know what to yet.

*I know that Kaineng Center has the end-game armor. They require lots of materials that I simply don't have. Am I supposed to farm items, salvage them, sell to material/rune traders or players online, then buy what I need from the Material Trader? I have tried selling a few Upgrade Components in trade chat unsuccessfully... GW doesn't make it easy, I'd love an auction house!

*Salvaging: I need to confirm this once and for all. What I have been doing is salvaging every possible thing I can. White items I use regular Salvage Kits on, and any colored item I use Expert. Is this what I should be doing? I asked this sort of question in general chat last nite and I was told to only salvage colored items, and sell the white items? What I originally intended was salvaging everything and selling to the material trader/use on my other characters what I didn't need. ...What's the best way to make money on my items?

*Psh... too many questions. Help with anything you can! It takes a while to get the hang of new MMO's, and I really, really want to start understanding how GW works, because I would love to start being a viable PVP player- which is what I aspire to be. I need someone to take me under their wing or something Anyways, thanks for any help you guys offer. My in-game name is Rawr I Am Angry (War) and Symbiotic Divinity (Mo). Msg me if you want to chat! I just joined a new guild last nite called WOLF, Warriors of the Last Forsaken. We'll see how that goes, maybe they will be a little more active than the first one I joined. I've been looking for that active, helpful, friendly guild "perfect" guild to put up with all my noob crap

I will take ANY suggestions on leveling, making my char better, or how I can be improving in any way. THANKS!

I.. think I understand everything you said, thanks. Does anyone else use this method of selling items? 75g cutoff seems to make sense.

Any other advice?

check what the materials are that you need.

salvage anything that gives these items and store them instead of selling them.

why sell cloth/iron/steel/etc for x just to buy it back later at 2x?

even getting 1 cloth is putting you ahead of buying it later and 2-7 cloth is even better

A system that has worked for me is :

- Salvage all white items and anything that says highly salvagable (use an expert salvage kit on the "highly" ones)

- Sell anything that says precious to merchant

- ID all coloured armour that drops and price check the rune on it. If the rune is worth more than the unsalvaged armour then use an expert salvage kit and sell the rune. If not just sell the armour to merchant

- Keep an eye open for good mods on gold and purple weapons, ie. +30hp mods like Prefectus said. Sometimes the salvaged mod is worth more than the whole weapon especially if the weap requirement is high, or the damage isn't max. You can price check weapons and mods here http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/f...splay.php?f=39

You'll get to know what's a good mod and what isn't and what's worth trying to sell to other players and what you should just get rid of at the merchants. The price check forum here has been invaluable to me as I'm such a pricing noob. If it's not 100% accurate all the time, it gives a good estimate of what things are worth. Luckily a few of my guildies are also pretty clued up on pricing. If you need any help in-game, PM me on any of the names over on the left there.

I find the above system has given me a good balance between materials and gold and I'm usually only short of a few things when I go to buy armour. Any materials I don't need I give to guildies or sell in bulk to other players.

Hope this helps and happy salvaging!

Edit: typos

Not the end-game armor (which is 15k fancy visual stuff), but armor with max stats. And you should get a set of this before doing Vizunah Square.

I usually savlage items that will give me what I need or that I can sell> EXAMPLE: bows ,staffs = wood planks, capes, garments = tanned hides, cloth, silk, swords, axes, hammers = iron, steel. See http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page this is great source for anything you need in GW. Also, after you reach higher levels in the game, I would use/buy expert salvage kits only. Selling materials to other players for lower than trader cost is an excellent way to make gold. I would do this at a place were armor is sold.
